Solar Path
1987, 24’ x 35’ x 12’, Anchorage, Alaska. Steel and concrete. Solar Path is an environmental plaza artwork for Springhill School in Anchorage, Alaska. This artwork is like a large sundial. The main column troughs a linear shadow that indicates the time of the day as it passes over inlaid hourly numbers. The two wedges are also solar indicators- the short wedge points to where the sunrises on the summer solstice (the longest day of the year) and the longer wedge form points to where the sunrises on the winter solstice (the shortest day of the year).
